Erie Humane Society Names Interim Executive Director

June 12, 2026 -- The Erie Humane Society Board of Directors is excited to announce the appointment of Peggy Schneider as interim executive director. This follows the recent resignation of Joe Lang.

Schneider brings extensive knowledge of the organization, having served on the EHS Board of Directors for 12 years, including four years as the board president. During her time as board president, Schneider led the organization through the development of the current Pet Wellness Clinic, located on EHS’s campus. She also has significant nonprofit experience with an emphasis in organizational leadership and fundraising. Most recently, Schneider spent 12 years in various leadership capacities within Allegheny Health Network, including serving as the director of Medical Affairs at Saint Vincent Health Systems. Her work with the Saint Vincent Foundation, along with her time at the Achievement Center, further strengthened Schneider’s fundraising experience within nonprofit organizations.

Schneider has stepped down from her position on the board to assume the interim role.

“As we continue working to strengthen the organization and ensure its long-term success, we’re fortunate to have someone with Peggy’s experience, understanding of our operations, and passion for our mission stepping into this role,” said EHS Board President Jennifer Gornall.

Schneider will work with Lang over the coming weeks to ensure a smooth transition. The board plans to conduct a formal search for a permanent executive director later this year.
