RESCUE | REHABILITATE | REHOME
Founded in 1892, the Erie Humane Society is a local, independent, 501(c)(3) no-kill shelter dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in need. For over 133 years, we’ve provided refuge, care, and second chances to stray, surrendered, neglected, and abused pets—working to create lasting connections between people and animals in our community and beyond.
THEIR JOURNEY STARTS WITH YOU
At the Erie Humane Society, one small act of compassion can change a homeless pet’s life forever. Whether it’s adopting, fostering, donating, or volunteering, your support provides food, shelter, medical care, and love to animals in need. Every act creates a ripple effect, helping pets heal, thrive, and find their forever homes.

Keeping your pet up to date on vaccinations is one of the most important steps you can take to protect their health. Vaccines help prevent your pet from contracting serious, potentially life-threatening diseases that can be difficult and costly to treat. In addition to safeguarding your pet, staying current on vaccines—especially rabies, which is required by law—also protects other animals and people in your community. Regular vaccinations are a simple, effective way to ensure your pet lives a long, healthy life.

Spaying and neutering are essential to helping reduce pet overpopulation and preventing unwanted litters. These procedures also offer important health and behavioral benefits, including lowering the risk of certain diseases and reducing roaming or aggressive tendencies. The Pet Wellness Clinic provides affordable spay and neuter surgeries, making it easier for pet owners to make a responsible choice that benefits both their pets and the community.

Blogs & Notes
Not every cat is suited for life indoors. Many thrive outdoors as “community cats,” living independently while still depending on people for care and safety. Understanding their needs helps us support them humanely, rather than trying to force them into homes they may not want.
In this linked article, Best Friends Animal Society explains how trap-neuter-vaccinate-return (TNVR) offers a compassionate, effective way to care for community cats while helping manage populations responsibly.
Give stray cats a warm place to rest this winter by building a cold weather shelter.
